Penicuik South Kirk and Manse Redevelopment

Hypostyle are currently developing a proposal for the redevelopment of the Penicuik South Kirk and associated manse into residential properties. The 19th century kirk is a Category C listed building and will need considerable work to establish a relationship between contemporary additions and retained features to retain character within the setting.
Our design involves the demolition of the church hall yet retaining the front and side façades to arrange space for six or seven flats with communal areas, car parking and gardens for residents. The manse will be converted into another two self-contained flats.
The proposed addition of zinc cladding above the existing stone aims to reinforce the horizontal visual quality of the truncated building with a contemporary identity.
