Garden Cottage
The University of Stirling have commissioned Hypostyle to assess the condition of the existing Garden Cottage within the University of Stirling campus. The original cottage is a reconstruction of a previous row of cottages and would have provided accommodation for local estate workers. It was later converted into the main university offices in 1967. Most alterations to the original cottage are internal.
Garden Cottage is a Category C listed building and needs urgent conservation work due to the high potential of roof collapse. Phase 1 will involve removing the entire existing roof and installing new timber trusses and dormers to protect the interior from further damage. The second phase of works will include replacing the first floor, windows and any damaged walls, and improving the interior.
Ivy Cottage
The University of Stirling has also commissioned Hypostyle to assess the condition of the existing 18th century Ivy Cottage within the University of Stirling campus. Ivy Cottage is not a listed building but has local and historical interest. It also needs urgent conservation work due to the high potential of roof collapse. However, the scope of works will only involve removing the entire existing roof and installing a temporary metal roof with timber trusses to protect the interior from further damage and remedial work to the existing stone chimneys, gables and copings.
