Hypostyle were appointed by Glasgow Life to coordinate refurbishment works throughout the first-floor of Kelvin Hall in Glasgow. After the Category B listed building underwent a £34 million Phase 1 refurbishment, Glasgow Life wanted to further improve the building facilities with a multi-purpose play area fit-out throughout the first-floor.

The completed works included:
a new café area on the first-floor suitable for 140 covers with associated servery, fully fitted kitchen and storage areas;
a new ‘clip ‘n climb’ climbing zone facility, installed utilising the scale afforded by the central clear storey space;
a new soft play adventure play area;
improved toilets and changing facilities;
a new meeting/seminar room;
heating and air conditioning services were installed to serve the new spaces;
and a new heating strategy was installed for the existing ground-floor gymnastics space.
Areas of the Kelvin Hall adjacent to the works had to remain open during the construction, with material deliveries programmed to minimise periods of disruption and maintain access for customers. Noise abatement measures were also put in place to reduce transference to the ground floor gymnasium and other areas.
