Greenview School (Kippen Gate)

Location:    Glasgow

Client:      Loretto Housing Association and Wheatley Group

Size:      Twenty-eight residential units

Status:     Complete

Hypostyle led the redevelopment of the former Category B listed Greenview School in Glasgow to create twenty-eight dwellings for Loretto Housing Association and Wheatley Group. The residential, social rent properties were designed specifically for elderly tenants and would be renamed ‘Kippen Gate’.

Our design comprises the conversion and extension of the main school building to provide nineteen flats; refurbishment of the associated Category B listed janitor’s house to provide supported residential accommodation for Glasgow City Council Social Work Services; and the construction of eight new cottage flats, including one wheelchair accessible dwelling.

The design proposals sought minimal intervention to the front elevation of the existing school and associated janitor’s house to maintain their original character. However, the new design features of the rear elevation were constructed in contemporary materials in respect of the original building design.
