The Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) is a research institute for the Univeristy of Strathclyde in Inchinnan, Renfrewshire. Hypostyle led the design of a structure that reflects the three primary spaces that the building accommodates: laboratories, offices and workshops. In addition to these spaces, the facility provides flexible and spacious collaborative working areas, known as ‘The Street’, that connects the various activities within the building.
“The AFRC is a dedicated high quality purpose built facility that reflects the state of the art in forming and forging.” - University of Strathclyde
The University of Strathclyde offered a brief that was enthusiastic towards sustainable building performance. Therefore, Hypostyle considered sustainable construction details to improve the overall building fabric and passive design strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of the institute. Our strategic design has led to low running and maintenance costs for the end users.
