Hypostyle Architects Glasgow Edinburgh

Ormiston Sports Pavilion

BUDGET: £0.9m

CLIENT CONTACT: Mark Nelson, Projects Development, East Lothian Council, Penston House, Macmerry Industrial Estate, Macmerry, East Lothian EH33 1EX

Hypostyle were appointed to provide architectural services as sub-consultants to Maxi construction for the Design & Building project to deliver a new sport pavilion at Ormiston, East Lothian.  Primarily for the use of the local Junior football team, Ormiston Primrose, the new pavilion has been built on their former football pitch, adjacent to their new pitch.  The contract also included the demolition of their existing pavilion, which had fallen into disrepair and subject to extensive vandalism.

The new pavilion is single storey and clad in timber boarding rainscreen with open joints. The gables and fascias are clad in Rockpanels in various shades of grey.  There were significant issues to overcome with regards to the timber cladding as Building Standards raised concerns with regards to fire proofing and vandalism. However, working together with all parties Hypostyle were able to develop an acceptable solution and successfully obtain a Warrant.

Internally there are two team changing rooms with showers, officials changing room and medical room.  There is also a large Clubroom with kitchen facilities and full height glazing facing the football pitch.  Electrically operated aluminium shutters protect all the windows when the building is vacant.

The building has been designed to be highly environmentally efficient, including an external air source heat pump.
