The Hub, Manor Avenue, Middlefield, Aberdeen.

Project Description:

Refurbishment and extension of the Lord Provost Henry E Rae Community Hall to create ‘the Hub’ and provide additional accommodation for NHS Grampian and facilities for the Middlefield Community Project.

The built extension provides the Middlefield Project with a new pre-school nursery with places for 73 children, sensory room, offices, additional flexible, multi-purpose rooms, a 24 place after-school club and dedicated space for an out of hours ‘Youth’ project.  The Nursery bases have direct, level, access to a new Nursery garden incorporating a covered deck, safety play surface, sandpit and contoured, landscaped greater play area.

The NHS accommodation comprises a suite of treatment and consulting rooms with support spaces.

The refurbishment includes the thermal upgrading of the existing structure, renovation of the sports hall and a new café space with south facing terrace overlooking the Nursery garden.  The fabric of the existing building was thermally upgraded and the whole building takes advantage of connection to the local communal Heat & Power network.  Internally the spaces incorporate a fully programmable, sensor controlled, low-voltage LED lighting system.

Externally the new building is clad in facing brick, Eternit weatherboarding and a grey metal roof.  The existing structure was re-clad using an insulated render system.

The facility is completed by an all new floodlit MUGA pitch, improved carparking, and ground contouring in anticipation of further improvements to the adjoining Midldefield Park.

The project was completed on time and within budget.
